I would recommend GHS to anybody who wants to have great service, kind and friendly faces and great after-service. I would give GHS a 10 ! We were welcomed at the house and explained everything in a nice and friendly way, they really cared that we as a tenant were feeling at home immediately. The house was beautiful and well-equipped. Wonderful location, walking distance (5 minutes) from the beach and 15 minutes from the centre of Moraira. Very quiet, no neighbors, luxureous feel and everything well taken care of and well-maintained. I would have liked to stay a lot longer ! During our stay if we had any questions they were answered really fast and or solved. Also when we left the house after a week, we had a good feeling about the completion, GHS was very much involved. Outstanding service and commitment. 8.9

Sierra de Bernia

The Sierra Bernia is a set belonging to the mountainous Cordillera Béticas located in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula in the province of Alicante.

The mountains stretching some 11 km from west to east, perpendicular to the Mediterranean coast. The mountain has an area of 1,900 hectares, distributed among the municipalities of Callosa Ensarriá, Altea, Calpe, Jalon and Benisa. The highest peak of the mountain Bernia that is used as a geodetic-vertex is in the town of Jalon, and is 1128 meters above sea level.

Fort Bernia

In the year 1562, by order of Philip II, was built on the south side of the mountain known as Fort Bernia. The purpose of the building was, first, prevent the riots of Moors, and secondly, to defend the coast of frequent attacks by Berber pirates.

Sierra de Bernia

During the Moorish rebellion in 1609, the rebels took over the strong, entrenched in it one year, until the exhausted and demoralized, they preferred to die despeñándose on the cliffs of the mountains rather than surrender and be expelled.

Since 1612 began dismantling it, because their supply was compounded by its remote location, the Moors and Spaniards had been expelled. Currently there are numerous remains of the fort: paintings from walls, domed buildings, moats and towers of the fort.

From the remains of the fortress located at 603 meters high, you can visually control the entire coastline between the Cabo de la Nao in Javea, and the port of Alicante, on a clear day, you can even see the island of Ibiza .

The saw Bernie extends perpendicular to the coast between Callosa d'En Sarrià and Punta de Toix. Its top is a sharp limestone ridge which culminates at the 1129 m. South of the summit are the remains of Fort Bernie commissioned by Philip II to control potential revolt of the Moors who inhabited these mountains and filled the benches and stone walls. The Moors were people in the Muslim tradition in Valencia Christian eventually being expelled in 1609. We recommend the route (signposted path as short routes) that part of Bernie Cases (Xaló) on the north side until Bernie Forat, a spectacular natural tunnel that crosses the ridge. Once crossed will return by the south side through the Fort. The excursion offers privileged views over the bay of Altea.

Activities Bernia

The main asset that every lover of the mountain want to have a place is the existence of paths for hiking, and in this case, the house is strategically located as it is located 50 meters from one of the points of the short tour itinerary of PR-V-7. This route allows you to enjoy the spectacular views of the southern slopes of the mountains. Enclaves may also stepped over the centuries has been responsible for tuning in ruins, "the Fort Bernie" (fortress built in the time of Philip II to spot and warn of incursions by Berber pirates, so prevalent at that time ) or "the refrigerator" (the old store building designed by the snow and keep it throughout the year, for distribution and sale). It can drink from the "Font Bernie" and, surprisingly, going from one to the other side of the mountains by "Forat", which allows a small cave traverse the mountain.

Apart from this route can be many others, like climbing up the ridge of the mountains, walk to other nearby items such as Marne, or Bardiola Pines, go to "channel of the FOIA, the boiler or The Passet bandolers dels ", all good places for amazing views, or by the geographical terrain.

Walking Moraira

Calle Calvo Sotelo will take us to the camino dels Castellons. We pass the Moli del Castellons, near a small wood of pine trees, one of the five remaining windmills in this area.We head to the urbanisation Castellons Vida, the highest point of our walk, offering spectacular views from the terraces which step down all the way to the sea

La Font de L'Horta y Benimarco

Starting from Avenida de Mediterráneo, via the camino de San Miguel, we will pass the Creueta de l’ Ave Maria ( a cast iron cross with an inscription in ceramic). The cross indicates the spot where , according to tradition, St Vicente Ferrer halted and blessed the area to prevent the plague and the wrath of pirates from overcoming the population .Taking the lane to the right, we will come to the Font de L'Horta with its two water outlets and a small watering place. This fountain is much ejoyed because of its tranquility and natural beauty.
From there  we continue on the Cami del Boticari, starting behind this font. On arriving at the Cami del Pouet del Moro, we turn to the right passing in front of the well which dates back to the middle ages, until we reach the road to Benimarco, which is a typical rural hamlet shared by both Teulada and Benisa. Along this walk we will see many worksheds, typical of this region. We finish up our tour in the square where the hermitage of Sant Jaume lies. The architectural characteristics of the building, with a single nave, are comparable to those  of teh so-called “conquest” churches. In the square, there is a nice balcony with a great view from the sea.We suggest to come back to Teulada via Camí de Sant Miquel. In that case we have to walk through Camí de Buseit, which starts by the hermitage and finishes on the urbanisation “La Coma dels Frares, where we marvel at the beauty of the countryside.

Font Santa

From Teulada, on the main road to Moraira, after only a few metres we can turn to the right to the Cami de les Rotgetes, that joins on Camí de la Sisca. This peaceful route will take us eventually back to the main road, but just before crossing the road a small fountain with its old watering place will be showed, its “la Font de la Jana” .Here, according to folklore, on the night of 23rd of June appeared a mysterious fairy, “ La Joanaina“, who granted wishes in exchange for carrying her on our shoulders, the only condition being not to turn to look at her. This legend possibly originated in pagan traditions of old times. From there we will have to cross the road  to reach La Font Santa. This fountain owes its miraculous origin to the hand of Saint Vicente Ferrer, who brought forth drinking water for the first time to relieve the thirst of his sister Constanza. Be there drought or heavy rain, water always flows. This pecularity has made it a point of pilgrimage. An hermitage dated on the 19th century is attached to the fountain as well as the the hermit’s dwelling, of the same period, where until recently a family lived. This family was in charge of looking after the hermitage and fountain.A popular festivity is held there, every year,  the second week of July.

From Teulada, along the Camino del Pas, we can enjoy a pleasant drive or stroll on foot discovering the architectural characteristics of this region, the Marina Alta, the riuraus as well as the perfectly constructed bancales or terraces that used to be cultivated to produce the main wealth of the area, wine and almonds. The typical rural hous tend to have a rectangular floor plan and a doublepitched roof. There is also a corral and a covered patio, a well or cistern, an oven for baking bread, and the Riu-rau, whichin earlier times was used as a means of protection from the inclement weather during the grape scalding to make raisins. Here, looking to the north-east we can see the villages of Benitachell and Jávea, with the Montgo and the Mediterranean in the background. On arriving at calle Benimarfull, we are amazed to discover a plateau that opens up some of the best views of the area. To the right along calle Benigànim, also offers us great views.Via camino Fanadix towards the sea we arrive at Cala Andrago

El Cap D'Or

(Approximate distance: 1,5 km / Estimate time:  One hour there and back)We begin this route at the end of the beach of El Portet from the Hermitage San Juan Bautista probably built at the middle of the nineteenth century. From the avenida del Portet on our left we will take  the calle Puerto Lápice to calle Puerto de Alcudia, at the end of which we start on foot. Signs will mark the path to the watch tower. On clear days it is possible to see Moraira bay and as far as the Peñon Ifach, Albir, Sierra Aitana and Ibiza to make the walk well worthwhile.

Barranco de la Cala

(Approximate distance: 4,1 km / Estimate time: 3 h and 15 min there and back)This route runs through one of the most beautiful and striking areas of the municipality ending at the beach of La Cala. We have to start this walk from Cami de la Viuda towards Calle Canario, the path then being signposted. Half way we must take the right fork, the path becoming more difficult and care should be taken. A recommended alternative is to the left just before the beach, a steep climb to the flat plateau from which we can reach the beach of Moraig of Benitachell.

Sports are important to our community, particularly water sports, well catered for at the Club Nautico.

The port of Moraira is one of the best and most frequented of all the marinas in the Valencian Community. Year after year it receives the blue flag of  the European Comunity. Its 620 moorings attract considerable social activity, taking advantage of the club, restaurants and shops. The Club Nautico organises yacht races and competitions, the most important being the Regata de Altura, Moraira to Santa Eulalia, at the end of September. The services provided by the Club Nautico include water and electricity at each mooring, 24 hour surveillance,a crane, travelift, launching ramps and workshops.

Jetski Moraira

Furthermore other water sports are available, such as underwater diving, jet skis, and windsurfing.Within the municipality available sports include go-karting, tennis, mini golf, handball, volleyball, badminton, basketball, football, fronton and swimming.

After a good dinner, the evening can be enjoyed in a  variety of ways depending on your taste, relaxed or lively. There are many bars and terraces to enjoy a drink and a chat as well more lively discos with varied Music, on occasions live.

Monuments of Moraira

The Town Hall of Teulada is a modern, multi-purpose building opened in 1991. Besides the offices of the local authority, it is also home to the Library and Arts Centre.

Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Catalina

The Parish Church of Santa Catalina stands out thanks to its compactness and austere medieval style. It was built at the end of the 16th century as a church-fortress in response to the frequent attacks from Berber pirates the town suffered at that time. It is of Renaissance style with Gothic details. It has a single nave with four 4 sections, a ribbed ceiling and an apse decorated with Byzantine-style paintings crowned with the parish coat of arms. The cost of its construction was paid for by the locals of Teulada by means of a special tax. It took 35-40 years to be built. Its interior once held a wealth of statues, but they were destroyed in the war. The only remaining statue is that of San Vicente Ferrer, which dates from the 18th century and was saved from destruction thanks to being hidden behind a wall in the home of a family that lived in Teulada. The church has a Romanesque-style organ that is one of the oldest in the province. The bell tower was built in the 19th century. It is 30 metres high and has a hexagonal layout.

Ermita de la Divina Pastora

The chapel of “la Divina Pastora” alongside the church is a quaint building with the main doorway in renaissance style while the rest is in baroque style. Funeral functions are carried out in the chapel.

Sala de Jurats i Justícies

In the heart of the historical centre of Teulada stands the Sala de Jurats i Justícies (Courts of Justice). This impressive building is the town’s most important civil monument and was where the local authorities used to hold their meetings until 1991.

Townhall Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Catalina Ermita de la Divina Pastora

It was built in 1620 in rough, rectangular stone and is set on three semi-circular front arches and two side arches. It has a sundial dated 1639 and stands next to the former home of Constanza Ferrer, sister of San Vicente Ferrer, the Patron Saint of Teulada. The square on which it stands was formerly used for commerce and trade such as the sale of fish and the traditional custom of slaughtering pigs. The building has undergone various transformations in its time owing to the whims of the local authority of the day, which opened or closed the arches to suit the functions it wanted to give the building.Throughout history, it has been the most practical building in Teulada and has been home to schools and markets, and used as a rehearsal room for the municipal band, a magistrate’s court and town hall.

Ermita de San Vicente Ferrer

San Vicente Ferrer´s chapel on the square of the same name. The construction is of Tosca stone with its dome of blue tiles contrasting with the white of the main structure, completed at the end of the 18th century in the neo-classical baroque style. The 16th century image of the saint at the altar is of interest. The altar is presided over by the panel painting of San Vicente Ferrer, attributed to the workshop of Juan de Juanes.Formerly, the shrine also contained the altarpiece of Las Ánimas, but today, only the panel of the Adoration of the Magi, of great artistic value, remains.

Sala de Jurats i Justícies Ermita de San Vicente Ferrer Torre Vigía del Cap D´Or

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora De los Desamparados

This church is located in the town centre of Moraira and was built between 1875 and 1878 with stone taken from the Castle of Moraira, which was demolished in one of the battles of the Carlist wars.It has been refurbished on several occasions, most recently in 1989. Its front is reminiscent of the typical architecture of the area, the riu-raus, porticoes with semi-circular arches. It also has outstanding stained-glass windows, which furnish the building with its very special colours. The east façade holds the statue of La Virgen del Carmen, Patron Saint of sailors and a maritime procession is held in her honour on 16 July.

Torre Vigía del Cap D´Or

La Torre del Cap d’Or stands on the highest point of the cape dominating the beach of El Portet. It is a watch tower that the engineer Antonelli recommended to King Philip the Second to be built to warn and defend the local population from incursions from the Berbers. The tower is circular with a perimeter of 26 metres and height of eleven. At the southeast slope of the Cap D’Or there is the Cova de les Cendres, a cave 35 to 40 metres above sea level,. It is one of the most important Paleolithic architectural finds in the Mediterranean.

Castillo de Moraira

The Castle of Moraira, although planned at the same time as the Torre del Cap D’Or, was not constructed until 1742, as shown on the Bourbon shield over the door. Its curious shape is known as an Ox’s Hoof due to the semi-circular south face, with a straight north face which includes the entrance to the interior. The castle is currently home to an audiovisual museum on the sea and pirates.

Visitors to our area have a choice of numerous dining options.

Some of the many restaurants in Teulada-Moraira are recommended by the prestigious Michelin Guide. Serving exquisite food, visitors can choose from traditional cuisine and Italian, German, Oriental and French specialities, to name but a few.

The people of Teulada use the catch to prepare traditional dishes such as "putxero de polp" (squid stew) "sopa de peix" (fish soup) as well as salted melva (similar to tuna), "bull" and "anxova" (anchovy).

Rice dishes are the stars of the local Teulada cuisine, with exquisite recipes such as "arròs a banda", "arròs amb fessols i naps", "paella amb sardines y espinacs" and "arròs negre". There is rice soup with octopus, "arròs de senyoret" and rice cooked in the oven, which has a marvellous traditional flavour.

There's nothing like a good local wine for washing down good food. The production of the native (indigenous) Roman muscatel grape makes it possible to elaborate important wines as a reference of our gastronomy:White wines: “Pitàgora”, semi-dry and “Viña Teulada”, dry wine with a fresh aroma of Mediterranean blooms.Red wines: “Viña Teulada”, a young and dry and “Lluna Plena”, a dry crianza. The moscatel-scented red “Vermouth”.Original wines are “Pitàgora”, slightly sparkling wine, and the firsts Cavas made from the Muscatel of Alexandria variety: Tegulata brut.As for “Mistelas”, that stand out the traditional Muscatel “Mistela Selecta de Teulada”, the “Pitàgora – Moscatell d’Or” and the “Moscatel Reserva” called “Càntic del Sol”.Also, mistelas “Cims Mediterrani” and “Cap d’Or”.
